My Cleansing Detoxification Program

Hello, this is Dr. Ellen. In this month’s ‘Real Common Sense’ newsletter, I want to share with you my cleansing detoxification program that I have successfully used over the years with quite a few of my patients. Most of those who followed the program experienced an improvement in their overall health and sense of wellbeing. For many whose primary goal was weight loss, the program helped them achieve significant weight loss and sustain that weight loss by continuing to follow the maintenance phase of the program.

By the way, if you haven’t had a chance to see my previous newsletters, you can find them on my website, www.drellencutler.com under ‘Media’.

What is a cleansing detoxification program?

Your body has mechanisms to help rid itself of toxins, whether they be ingested, inhaled, or absorbed through the skin. Unfortunately, in today’s world, there are many more types and amounts of toxins in our food, water, and air than ever before. The purpose of a cleansing detoxification program is twofold: to support and enhance the body’s own detoxification processes, and at the same time to minimize the toxic load placed on the body during the program. My program does this by using a phytonutrient-dense meal replacement, which is slowly weaned from over three weeks, and initially decreasing caloric intake in the first week and then slowly increasing it over the next two weeks. For most people, this leads to enhanced health and sense of wellbeing as well as healthy weight loss. I designed a 3-week cleansing detoxification program to accomplish these goals, which I describe below. The program has been well-tolerated by most of those who have followed it, and most have continued into the maintenance phase, resulting in longer term benefits.

Starting in the first few days of the program, you may experience detoxification reactions. These can include fatigue, irritability, headaches, constipation (especially when not drinking enough water), skin rashes, and sometimes frequent urination (which can represent increased kidney and bladder functioning).(1, 2) These may be newly appearing or represent a recurrence or increase of pre-program symptoms.(3) If these occur, I usually encourage people to increase their water intake (though usually not for those with increased urination), use skin brushing (preferably with a long-handled brush designed for this purpose), and do gentle exercising with mild to moderate exertion. However, any or all of these should be done only as tolerated.

If you are considering starting this program and have been diagnosed as having diabetes, low blood pressure, cancer, or other medical conditions; or are taking medications such as insulin, statins, steroids, immunosuppressants, or antihypertensives; please first consult with your health care provider before beginning this or other similar cleansing detoxification program. The same holds true if you are over 65 years old. I recommend against starting this program if you have a history of an eating disorder, are pregnant or breast feeding, or are significantly underweight or frail.

Dr. Ellen’s 3-week Cleansing Detox Program for Weight Loss and Health Improvement and Maintenance

1st week:

If possible, the only meals in the first week are servings of Dr. Ellen’s Way VeganCleanse™.

You can have as many servings as you feel are needed, remembering to take a full spectrum digestive enzyme (such as Dr. Ellen’s Way Digest Supreme or, for those with gastrointestinal issues, Dr. Ellen’s Way G.I. Calm) at the beginning of each meal. You can also include green powders (spirulina powder, Emerald Energy, etc.). Use psyllium seed husk powder with one or two of the shakes each day, especially if you are having infrequent bowel movements or have frank constipation; decrease or stop use of the psyllium seed husk powder if you develop overly frequent loose stools or diarrhea. If you feel the need for additional food, you can have a snack of some raw vegetables or vegan soups**. However, the best results have been found when abstaining from any additional foods in the first week. Drink lots of water throughout the day – every 30 minutes, take at least a good sip of water.

2nd week:

Continue with Dr. Ellen’s Way VeganCleanse™ for two meals or more and have one Dr. Ellen’s Way PowerPea™ plant-based protein powder serving once a day with some added snacks as desired**. Again, take a full spectrum digestive enzyme before the shakes. Continue to drink lots of water throughout the day – every 30 minutes, take at least a good sip of water.

3rd week:

Continue with Dr. Ellen’s Way VeganCleanse™ for two meals and have one Dr. Ellen’s Way PowerPea™ serving with either lunch or dinner. This meal can include additional plant-based protein, salads, soups, and some low glycemic fruits. Snacks** can now include ½ cup of nuts or seeds per day and green, matcha, or herbal teas. Remember to take a full spectrum digestive enzyme before the meal and the shakes. Continue to drink lots of water throughout the day – every 30 minutes, take at least a good sip of water.

4th week and beyond:

The primary goal following the detoxification period is to help maintain the improvements achieved by the program. I have found the most important thing is to adopt a whole food plant-based diet as closely as possible. Foods should ideally be mostly raw or minimally processed. Continue taking a full spectrum digestive enzyme before each meal.  The closer to a whole food vegan diet you are, the more you should pay attention to getting sufficient plant-based protein and calcium in your diet, and supplement with vitamins B12 and D. Some individuals also include supplemental vegan (algal) DHA/EPA, iodine, and zinc.(4)

** Snacks can be some raw, cut up vegetables, vegan soups made with little to no oil, or vegan salads without oils in the dressing.

The Ellen Cutler Method

Over my years of practice, many of my patients have come in with complaints that were attributed to one or more toxicities, including pesticides, herbicides, and heavy metals. By using ECM energetic testing, I have been able to help identify underlying toxic substances. Once the main and contributing problems are identified, I am then able to determine the best means of addressing their problems, most often using the cleansing detoxification program outlined above and energetically clearing them of their sensitivities, as well as identifying optimal lifestyle choices and supplementation for each patient. I have found this approach to be the most efficient and successful way of achieving optimal improvements in wellness and the decrease or resolution of the patient’s complaints in those suffering from toxicities.

So, be well, be healthy, and remember…

“The effects of the cleanse go way beyond weight loss. I found I had so much mental clarity during and afterwards.”
